West Coast Labor Movement Utility Boxes

2024PINAYSPHERE, UFW, PILASPublic Art, Community Engagement PINAYSPHERE, United Farm Workers (UFW), and People in Liberated Autonomous Spaces (PILAS) joined forces for the “Si Se Puede / Isang Bagsak” utility box project. The project involved painting 4 utility boxes with imagery revolving around the contributions of both Mexican and Filipino farmworkers to the West Coast Labor Movement.

My two boxes were based on Larry Itliong, Philip Vera Cruz, Agbayani Village, and the Delano Grape Strike. Members of the local community came to help paint, including adding their purple thumbprints to the grapevines, creating a sense of ownership to the art, history, and city.
