I had the opportunity to compose the Filipino ancestral markings (black linework) on PINAYSPHERE’s mural honoring Larry Itliong, a filipino farmworker and one of the fathers of the West Coast labor movement.
The artwork can be found at Island Pacific Seafood Market in Oxnard, my childhood Filipino grocery store.
I consulted with
Lane Wilkin, traditional cultural and tattoo practitioner, who provided the 3 markings we used: Pika (Spear), Ikamon (Mat/Banig), and Nasukat ti Buaya (Double Crocodile). The project was completed with the help of community members during free mural workshops hosted by PINAYSPHERE called Muralism Medicina.
